This statue was to the longest lasting sheriff in Burnet county. He looks odd to me, like his legs are really long and his torso is really short. He was probably about my height. Guess not everything is taller in Texas.

The Speedway building stretches from left to right in the picture. Was a big building! The three roadsigns read from left: Vip/PSL infield parking, Campgrounds public parking, and Public Parking. I guess people camp out for these things.

There's this big, wide, skinny (seen from the side) hotel. I think it's only 2 rooms and a hallways thick. It sits on the speedway, with glass on the other side of the building so you can stumble out of bed and watch the race without the inconvienence of going outside.

The only spot where traffic got tricky was just as we came across the Texas Speedway, outside of Killeen, Texas. In the center left of the photo, you can see tire tracks though the grass, cuz sombody got a wee bit impaitent.

Way off in the distance you can see some structures that look like the invaders from that old arcade game "Space Invaders" Those are, or were, houses. On 15 foot stilts. There were a lot of them abandoned, but there was a lot of rebuilding going on too! Ah, the human spirit. Even when hurricanes say 'Umm.. you probably shouldn't...", We raise that defiant finger and do anyway

at the Motel 6. Can you tell I was not terribly impressed and it's hard for me to turn down any thing that keeps the sun and rain off my head. Still, it served it's purpose and had free HBO, which I haven't seen in 100 years. Even before it was on, I didn't see it.

Ah.. these are the far away, across the bay pyramids at Moody Gardens. Three of them, and I think this was sort of like the Aquarium in Jenks. Lots of things for children to do. The Moody family were big supporters of the arts in Galveston, as well as advocating Moodiness.

She's a doll, and definitely, if you are in Fredricksburg, Texas, stop at the Motel 8 and tell her hello. Yeah, I liked her a lot.

Built by the Bruckner family, who owned the farm after the Johnsons. This barn was built in 1884. The Johnsons left the farm in 1882.

Having no refrigeration, fresh pumped spring water works sometimes just as well. I think it was an Aeromotor windmill, a thing close to my heart. The water is pumped up from the ground, to the round tank, and then into the building from the roof. This works like a swamp cooler and the limestone helps to keep the cool.

The next series of pictures are about an odd cloud phenomena we saw before we got to Huston the first time. It looked like the cloud reached from the ground to the sky, like a tornado, but there wasn't any damage. The clouds up above were odd shaped and circular.

There is a battleship and a submarine on this little spit of land that can be visited by starting in Galveston and driving out to it. We were on a ferry. I could not walk on the water, so I didn't get to see the submarine. I wanted to, though!

Here we and the Ferry move up to dock. Big rotating rubber ferry bumpers keep us in line . I have to tell you, it was my first ferry ride, and it was very, very cool. I would love to do it every place there's a ferry. The water was rocking under our feet and it was quiet, except the sound of the motor.

I added that arrow in the sky, not God. Sheesh! That arrow is the direction the clouds were rotating, and they kinda formed a donut in the sky. Maybe a tornado that never formed? I dunno, but it was neat.

The Colorado River

Inside Texas, the Colorado looked very calm and quiet, a lot like the Arkansas river in Oklahoma. But I mean.. the COLORADO! How very cool is that?

These were really big bumper pylons near the dock. As the ferry moved in to the dock, it would bump gently against them and the black rubber parts would rotate to help guide us where we needed to go.

Outside the Texas Speedway, here were these three Nascar type cars sitting in a pond. Just sitting there. Kinda odd, but hey... I just don't get Nascar.

I really don't know what the heck this is supposed to be. It was one of those giant sculptures outside of Fredricksburg, Texas. Maybe a bullseye? I dunno. It was big and concrete and I bet the artist charged a whole lot for it.

This is the little place on the docks in Galveston we ate breakfast at before we drove to the ferry. It was clean and the service was very good. The food wasn't Denny's, and that may have been a good thing! The coffee was darn good. I think I may have been less grumpy here.
