My Sweet Chocolate Pepper is all grown up! :) Soon it will be a delightful brown, and yummy! Sadly the other two peppers on the plant are just lil guys, but at least I'll get one!

Its not done a lot in the heat wave. The pepper is not supposed to look like that - its supposed to look like your conventional green pepper, not a jalapeno. There are two others, puny ones, to the right of it.

Well. looks like the 'Master Gardener' I bought this from actually knew what she had! I was expecting a pale pink if it turned out at all, but just a couple days ago I looked out and saw this among all the white! I've cut back the white yarrow because I don't want it to cross, and I can harvest hot pink yarrow seeds.

Sure, they look shrimpy, they're babies! :) The Belgian Minicors are nearly fully grown and probably will be fully grown in late August, but the Purple Dragons clearly have at least 6 weeks left to grow. Regardless, the containers badly needed thinning, tho the Minicor box was so full I just decided to take the first three inches of the one side where the carrots were yellowing.

Madeline with her only feline friend, Smokey. When she was living on her own before I took her in, Smokey was the only cat who didn't beat her up and take her birds. She outright attacks any other cat who comes around.

That's my kitchen window. Some of the comfrey is over my head, and I'm not a short woman. Fortunately they're hemmed in by my black mesh fence and the tipi that was supposed to be supporting an acorn squash that never sprouted. I'd cut some of them out, but the bees are loving them and bees need as much food and support as possible.

The borage also didn't like the excessive rain, and the bottom leaves succumbed before I pulled it back under the overhang. The basil, on the other hand, is happy as all heck. What you can't see very well is that the borage produced a bloom today, and its blue!

My pot o' snow peas was not happy with the 10 straight days of rain, as you can see, and the fact I'd like it to grow in the exact opposite direction it wants to go. So they're still rather small, but beginning to produce peas. The Tashkent Marigold produced one bud so far, and like usual I pinched it off to encourage more.

My late fruiting strawberries finally started taking off after I got that homemade automatic waterer working correctly. I didn't pack the dirt in the neck of the bottle properly for the first weeks, and the water kept draining out the bottom.

See that patch of green under the pyramid? That's a second sprout from the sweet potato! The original stump is kind of half hidden by dirt and pyramid, but it also has buds on it. I wish I had a better camera.

Back in March, I started hardening the sweet potato off because it was getting too big for the pot. Realistically it was still too cold, but I didn't really have much choice. When I pulled it from the pot it even had fingerling potatoes already.

Sitting in the coldest part of the house, getting blasted regularly when the screen door was opened out to three feet of snow in the back courtyard, this little sweet potato sprouted out of a potato slip I'd planted in this pot as an experiment. I didn't expect it to live, but one day, there it was!

When I was three, my parents didn't have much money. So my mother bought a kit with basswood ornaments and other decorations, like a gingerbread house. I remember the smells of the oil paint, and watching her meticulously paint and assemble each one. Over the years, they fell apart, broke, or were just not put on the tree anymore and disappeared. This is the only one that had multiple pieces that survives. It was my favorite of all the ornaments she put together, and through the years I lobbied to have it put on the tree even when the other wooden ornaments were relegated to the box. And when I left home, I took it with me. Its always the first thing to go on. 2005 - 07 were difficult years, and I didn't have a tree. So I rigged up this: a wreath made of garland with a hanger for the ornament. It was the only ornament that was put up those years. The rest were relegated to...their box.
